VerdeRocks Brings Back Organics
VerdeRocks began in 2004 as a line of bamboo based jewelry. We were innovating in the area of Timber bamboo, creating bangles and cuffs, hand harvested, and hand carved from the root ends of theses giant stalks.
It was exciting work. We then moved our headquarters from Tucson, AZ, where we had access to a 40 year old stand of the best Timber Bamboo in Arizona, to Los Angeles, CA, where we soon discovered that essentially there is none. My, did we miss that bamboo.
Since then, our line mostly features Nouveau Vintage pieces, which we love, but we still miss our bamboo. So much so, we have decided that we need to be near it, once again. We have researched the best areas for bamboo, as we prepare to move our permanent headquarters.
Our choice is Portland, Oregon, and we'll be there in November '08. We are excited to be close to our favourite sustainable plant, and begin production of new bamboo jewelry and home products. Until then, we are proud to offer our first selection of Organics since those beginning days.
We've done our research, and discovered some amazing sources for sustainable jewelry
materials. One of these is Rattan, a vine-like plant that grows in the endangered forests of South East Asia. In the forests where rattan grows, its economic value can help protect forest land, by providing an alternative to loggers who forgo timber logging and harvest rattan canes instead. Compared to most tropical wood, rattan is much faster growing. This makes it a potential tool in forest maintenance, since it provides a profitable crop that depends on rather than replaces trees. We think that's awesome! So we have included it in our line.

In our next post, we'll introduce our line of shell jewelry. All by-products of the food industry, and sustainably farmed.
